Crabbing (1 of 2)

Posted by
L'explorateur (Vancouver, Canada) on 21 January 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Yesterday morning, at the pier at Jericho beach, Vancouver. It’s snowing pretty well. A man is seeking shelter behind the wooden stairs, while he’s waiting for his trap to capture some crab. In a word, he’s crabbing.

A caccia di granchi (1 di 2)
Ieri mattina, al molo presso Jericho beach, a Vancouver. Nevica abbastanza intensamente. Un uomo cerca riparo dietro le scale in legno, mentre attende che la sua trappola catturi qualche granchio. In inglese questa attività si esprime con una parola (crabbing) che tradotta suonerebbe come granchiando.

@Becky: Hi Becky, thank you so much! It was pretty cold out there, but probably worth it :)

@٭ ƸɼiϾ ٭: The man was very silent. Just waiting to be done with the crab. It was not easy to spot the thin rope that held the trap. You can barely see it in the further left corner of the pier. It's orange. Thanks for visiting! :D

I loved my D90, an amazing camera and here you have put it to work with awesome result. Depth of focus is spot on concentrating on those middle wooden posts, allowing such a glorious bokeh tailing away to the distant vessel. The snow fall feels like a blizzard and the scene is alive with detail. First class.

@SOUL AFLAME: Hello Paul! Thank you for these beautiful words! I am so happy that you like it. Yesterday morning, walking down along the pier, I decided to leave this POV as the last one and I took the picture just before leaving. It felt so good. I myself felt so alive. Under the snow, in the cold, exploring!

i, too, love the use of focus here, as well as the difference in tonality caused by the snowfall! very convincing perspective, too!

@Franz: Hi Franz! Your great comment is very encouraging! It usually doesn't snow very long in Vancouver. Maybe a few hours. But when it does, everything it's even more beautiful. Even the pier! :)

la pluie est l'acteur principal de cette image au cadrage très réussi !!:)
